Created by Juliu Horvath, GYROTONIC®. exercises work to develop spherical awareness in the mind and body. Weights, pulleys and cams are used to assist clientele in integrated and isolated exercises helping to expand movement and encourage versatility. Rhythmic breathing patterns coordinate and direct the body in order to obtain balanced, flowing and organic movement.
A typical GYROKINESIS® class begins with participants practicing self-massage and simple breathing patterns, something, Juliu has named, “Awakening of the Senses”. While seated on low stools, participants mobilize the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. These same movement patterns are expanded to the rest of the body. Corresponding breathing patterns are executed with every movement to stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and oxygenate the blood. Advanced classes offer endurance training preparing participants for more strenuous activities. All GYROKINESIS® classes, from beginner to advanced, encompass sitting on a stool, lying on a mat and standing positions.
